A little Education on some FAQ’s

HEY!!!!

It’s Nelson here!

My hooman thought it would be great for me to share some more lengthy descriptions on some of the top FAQ’s

Winter Attire

WE LOVE to spend time outside during the colder winter months, but do we really need protective clothing such as sweaters and coats? In most cases, the answer is no. Most of us have enough fur to keep us warm outside during the winter.

When making the decision on whether to put warm winter clothing on us, consider the following:

  • your dog’s size
  • breed
  • the outside temperature

BOOTIES!! Oh my, do our humans love to laugh at us when we put them on!

In all seriousness though.

  • They protect our paws against sharp ice and packed snow
    • When snow first falls, it’s soft and safe and harmless, but once it’s been packed down by people walking on it, or an overnight freeze, sharp edges can form. In the same vein, if the ground is icy, if the ice cracks, the edges of the cracks can be very sharp. If your pup walks over these sharp edges without boots on, their paws can get cut pretty easily. Slipping on a set of boots can help protect the vulnerable paw pads.
  • They keep our paws safe from those super cold days
  • Not that there is a lot of this where we hike but they create a barrier from salt and other chemicals on the ground

Pest Protection

I know you humans love to be all-natural but it’s super important to protect us so we too can protect you. They’re creepy, they’re crawly…and they can carry diseases.
  • Fleas and ticks are not just a nuisance but pose animal and human health risks.
  • Some of the diseases that fleas and ticks can transmit from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases) include plague, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, bartonellosis, and others.
  • Consult your veterinarian about your options and what’s best for your pet.
    • Discuss the use of preventive products, including over-the-counter products, with your veterinarian to determine the safest and most effective choice for each pet.
    • Read the entire label before you use/apply the product.
    • Always follow label directions!
